RICHARD T. SCHMEDING, 82, of Hoagland, died Thursday, November 16, 2006, at his residence. Born November 16, 1924, of Springfield, Ohio, he was a graduate of South Side High School and the National FBI Academy. He retired from the Fort Wayne Police Department after 20 years where he attained the rank of Chief of Detectives. He also worked at Kroger’s for 13 years. He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving in the 1943 Pacific Theater. He was a member at St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville. He loved fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Florence Ann Schmeding of Hoagland; daughters, Mary Ann Cenci, Page, Arizona and Nancy Ann (Tim) Reasoner of Gilbert, Arizona; brother, Robert Schmeding of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia; sister, Marjorie Johnson of Yoder; and seven grandchildren, Michael Schlau and Jessica Cenci, both of Page, Ariz., Courtney and Adam Black of Gilbert, Arizona, Mathew and Marc Schlau and Paschal Cenci, all of Fort Wayne; two great-grandchildren, Elijah Schlau and Emily Smith, both of Fort Wayne.
Private service. Entombment in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Arrangements by Elzey Patterson & Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne.
