Apply online for waterfowl hunts
Up to September 30, waterfowl hunters can register for DNR property reserved hunts online at: www.indianaoutdoor.IN.gov. Mail-in reserved waterfowl hunt applications are also available at state fish and wildlife area offices and at Monroe Lake and Roush Lake offices.
Applications can also be found at the DNR Customer Service Center in Indianapolis. The service center is in Room 160 of the Indiana Government Center South, 402 W. Washington St. Mailed applications must be received by September 30.
Each hunter may register only one time for reserved DNR waterfowl hunts. Five hunt preferences can be listed on the application.
Applicants need to supply their hunting license number in order to register. If drawn, hunters will need a valid Indiana hunting license and applicable state and federal waterfowl stamps.
Reserved hunt properties and dates: LaSalle, Kingsbury, Kankakee and Willow Slough fish and wildlife areas: 10/23, 10/27, 10/30, 11/3, 11/6, 11/10, 11/13, 11/17, 11/20, 11/24
Monroe Lake: 11/29, 12/11, 12/22, 12/30, 1/8/06
Hovey Lake Fish and Wildlife area: 11/25, 11/27, 11/29*, 12/2, 12/4, 12/6*, 12/9, 12/11, 12/13*, 12/16

Take a Vacation in the Parks
With all the bad news about destruction from Katrina and the rising costs related to gas shortages, the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation would like to remind citizens that there is plenty of fun to be had in the parks this weekend – and it won’t cost an arm and a leg to enjoy .
Ideas for activities:
Take a walk, bike, or rollerblade on the 15 miles of greenway
Visit one of our 84 parks – have you been to all of them?
Play in our spray-ground at Memorial or the fountain at Headwaters
Pack a picnic or visit the Conservatory
The Zoo is open from 9-5 p.m. every day
Sunday is a discovery walk at our Lindenwood Nature Preserve
Take a ride on the model T bikes at Headwaters
Visit the Fort and imagine
Golf is available all weekend – so be sure to reserve a tee time at McMillen, Foster and Shoaff
Don’t forget our beautiful flower displays at Lakeside and Foster
If you’re into camping – we have a camp ground here in the city at Johnny Appleseed
The only thing you need is imagination and a willingness to explore.

The Department of Natural Resources Web site has posted a new link-dedicated to fall recreation in Indiana. To visit the fall site, click on www.dnr.IN.gov/fall
A joint effort of the DNR and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development, the site includes a “Leaf Cam,” which shoots still photos of various forested sites across the state. The photos refresh every 15 minutes, so viewers can see when leaves arrive at the peak of fall color.
The site also features an interactive travel guide, which lists campgrounds, festivals, lodging and restaurants, and more. Visitors can choose a region or city and then enter a keyword to get a list of related links. The “trip ideas” section offers pictures and paragraphs on various Indiana attractions, and travel discounts and free getaways also are highlighted.
Specific topics such as migrating sandhill cranes are highlighted on the site, along with interesting fall activities such as making patterned notepaper with crushed flower blooms. Interactive maps of Indiana with zoom capability will help Hoosiers navigate unfamiliar areas of the state.
