FLORENCE L. (BEVERFORDEN) BRUBAKER, 88
FLORENCE L. (BEVERFORDEN) BRUBAKER, 88, of Fort Wayne, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 17, 2005. Born January 25, 1917, in Fort Wayne, she was a lifelong resident, except for when she lived in Adams County, for 20 years. She was the consummate storyteller and had received training as a child by the Philley sisters, who operated a Dramatic Arts School early in Fort Wayne. She had been active in Christian endeavors since she was a teenager. She was gifted in teaching children and did so in several churches. First, in her early adulthood, at the Faith Tabernacle, then, for over 30 years, she was active in the Missionary Church Association, at Northside Missionary Church and then, at First Missionary Church. She served at various times as a teacher, junior church leader, outreach leader, Sunday School Superintendent and lastly, as a member of the Executive Board of First Missionary Church. She also served as Children’s Director of the Central District. During the last 30 years, she has been a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ossian.
Survived by husband, Frederick Brubaker of Fort Wayne; sons, Dennis (Phyllis) Brubaker and Jay Brubaker, both of Fort Wayne and Michael (Barbara) Brubaker of South Bend; grandchildren, Leah (Jason) Zawodny of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Charity Brubaker of Goshen, Rosalie Brubaker of South Bend and Nathaniel Brubaker of Fort Wayne; sisters, Gladys and Jayne Beverforden, both of Fort Wayne, Ruth (Jack) Barth of Schererville and Gloria (Jack) Killion of Canton, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Lee Brubaker; sisters, Jeanette Hill Butz, Virginia Robins and Bernice Fennig; and brother, Clarence Beverforden.
Service was Wednesday, September 21, at Elzey Patterson Rodak, Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road. Pastor Lyle Ewing officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
