ELLIS N. WHITE, 93

ELLIS N. WHITE, 93, of Fort Wayne, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Parkview Hospital. The Capitol Heights, Md. native, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, enlisting in 1927. He graduated from the submarine training school in 1930 and served the next 20 years in the U.S. Submarine fleet, including service during World War II. After the war, he transferred to the surface fleet and served on an Aircraft Carrier, the USS Boxer, during the Korean Conflict. During the latter part of his naval career, he commanded U.S. Naval transport ships during the American Support of the French Indochina War. He retired from the Navy in 1957, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He later retired from Magnavox Corp., Government Electronics Division, as a Technical Writer, in 1975. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served as a lay minister, he was also a member of the Indiana Chapter of The Submarine Veterans of WWII and The Retired Naval Officers Association.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Margaret H. White; sons, Bruce R. White and Dana M. White, both of Fort Wayne, and Kurt E. White of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother, Ira U. White of Beltsville, Md.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service was Wednesday, June 9, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 611 W. Berry St. Calling was Tuesday, June 8, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.

The preferred memorial is Trinity Episcopal Church.
