YOUNG GARDENERS, APPLY NOW FOR SUMMER, 2002 YOUTH GARDEN PROGRAM

Space is limited for the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service’s 5th Annual Allen County Master Gardener Youth Volunteer Program for children ages 8-12. Apply now at the Purdue Cooperative Extension Office. Space is limited.

The children will participate in a gardening curriculum, hands-on learning, and educational field trips. The students receive a handbook with gardening information and learn from instructors about: garden safety, plant propagation, soil, fertilizer, vegetables, compost, and worm composting, annuals, biennials, perennials, turf and lawnmower safety, insects, plant diseases, herbs, wildlife, trees, biotech, water gardening, cooking from your garden, weather and gardening, fairy gardens, and indoor plants. Classroom instructors include Purdue Master Gardeners, Dr. Larry Yoder for Goshen College and Jason Morrison, naturalist.

Contact Ricky Kemery, Horticulture Educator, at 481-6826, in the Purdue Cooperative Extension Office, 4001 Crescent Avenue on IPFW’s campus for an application. A registration fee of $30 covers the curriculum materials, plant materials and supplies, as well as a T-shirt. The class will be limited to 20 students on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of scholarships are available.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN SEMINAR

Interested in learning how to create a beautiful home landscape? Then attend the second annual landscape design seminar at the Allen County Extension Office. The two-part seminar series will be held on Thursday, April 18 from 6pm to 8:30pm and Saturday, April 20, from 9am to 3:30pm. Attendance at both sessions is required. Landscape designer Alan Clayton will provide fun and interesting information on tree and shrub selection, elements of design, the design process, and composing a landscape master plan. Rick Kemery, Allen County Horticulture Educator, will also help answer your design questions. Cost for the two-part seminar is $25. Deadline for registration is April 12th. SANDPOINT GREENHOUSE PRESENTS GARDEN WALK

Sandpoint Greenhouse is proud to present the annual Garden Walk on Friday, April 19, from 8am to 5:30pm and Saturday, April 20, 2002 from 11am to 5pm. Tour many unique gardens like “Earth on her Hands”, “Under the Moonlight”, and “American Freedom.” Louise Rennecker, (The Herb Lady of Fort Wayne), will be the guest lecturer on Sunday at 1:30pm. Also enjoy the first-ever designer competition “On the Wall Off the Wall,” featuring window boxes of every size and description imaginable. No admission fee.
