ANNUAL SCOTTISH RITE CENTER CRAFT BAZAAR BOOTH RENTAL AVAILABLE
The Scottish Rite Center is proud to announce its 3rd annual Craft Bazaar to be held on October 26, 2002 from 10am to 3pm. All proceeds generated from booth rental fees and concessions will be donated to the Masonic Learning Center for Children, which offers free tutoring to children with dyslexia. The Bazaar is held in both the Valencia Ballroom and the Horseshoe Lobby and has featured in the past crafts of many kinds, such as woodworking, antiques, quilts, numerous handmade items, and more.
Booth rental reservations are being accepted at this time. Booth rental spaces start at $35. Only 60 booths will be accepted, so reservations are recommended in advance. Lunch and a bake sale will be available. Free parking will also be provided. WAYNEDALE PRE-SCHOOL BEGINS FALL CLASSES
The Weekday Pre-School Educational program at Waynedale United Methodist Church located at 2501 Church Street will begin fall classes September 5, 2002.
This fall the school is adding a new class, to the present program, for children 2 years old. Children attending this class do not need to be potty trained. Classes are also available for preschool children ages 3, 4, and 5. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs and interests of the individual child. This includes opportunities for investigation and experimentation through social group play, language development, introduction to academics, chapel time, music, games, stories, and creative activities. Several field trips are planned for the older children during the school year.
Enrollment is open to children of all denominations. Additional information concerning the school program and the availability to classes may be obtained by calling the church office at 747-7424 or the director, Sally Parkison at 432-4490.
ZOO VOLUNTEER TRAINING COURSE TO BEGIN
A training course for persons interested in volunteering at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo will begin Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at 10am in the Zoo’s Jungle Lab. Volunteers will be trained in animal taxonomy animal handling, public speaking, zoo history, and safety. Volunteers play a vital role in the education and enjoyment of Zoo visitors. They come from a variety of backgrounds and bring with them a vast array of skills. The Zoo is currently looking for volunteers to lead tours, present outreach programs and become involved in other education activities at the Zoo. Volunteers must be age 18 or older, enjoy people, especially children, and be available for two three-hour shifts per month. ERIN’S HOUSE FOR GRIEVING CHILDREN
Erin’s House provides by-monthly peer-support groups for children ages 3 to 25 that are grieving the terminal illness or death of someone they love. The program goal is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where children, teens and young adults can share their experiences and begin the healing process. Services are provided at no cost to families. Please call 423-2466 for an application. Erin’s House has many volunteer opportunities. “Have fun, and help people – not necessarily in that order,” is Marge’s goal for the rest of her life. Not only is Marge a watercolor artist, she is also an author of several children’s stories, not only writing them, but also illustrating them. Marge enjoys reading these stories to her grandchildren’s school classes. And, Marge is an active volunteer for the Red Cross, sometimes traveling to the latest disaster in the USA, helping where she is needed.
Taking watercolor classes at several Elder Hostels and from Karen Starn at the Fort Wayne Art Source has opened up another area of Marge’s creativity. Although new at watercolor, her unique style has attracted new patrons. And how old is our featured artist? Well, you NEVER ask a lady her age, but Marge does not let the fact that she began drawing Social Security several years ago slow her down. For Marge, it is not the years on the calendar, it is the joy for living that counts. – Marge feels young in her heart. Pick up your brush, and come and join Marge in class, you will NOT be as tired, you will NOT be as old as you think you are after being inspired by this delightful senior citizen.
