Garton Appoints Long to Chair Influential Committees
(STATEHOUSE) Looking forward to the 114th session of the Indiana General Assembly, State Senator David Long (R-Fort Wayne) received his committee assignments for 2005-2006 from Senate President Pro Tempore Robert D. Garton (R-Columbus).
Long will chair the influential Corrections, Criminal, and Civil Matters Committee, the Joint Rules Committee, and the Insurance Subcommittee. Long will also serve as a member of the Ethics Committee, the Civil Matters Subcommittee, and the Probate Code and Trusts Subcommittee.
“David possesses a deep insight into the legislative process and a dedication to the people of Indiana,” Garton said. “These key positions require these very qualities.”
Senate committees allow legislators to review prepared legislation and hear testimony on issues before bringing them to the Senate floor for consideration. The President Pro Tempore assigns bills to committees based on subject matter.
“The legislature faces the daunting task of dealing with several important policy issues, including the creation of the state’s biennial budget,” said Long. “I’m proud to be on the frontlines in this tough—but essential—undertaking that affects Hoosiers across the state and right here in Northeast Indiana.”
Long represents District 16 which includes portions of Allen County.
