SCOUTING AROUND WITH TROOP 344

A letter to Waynedale from a Boy Scout

NEW/OLD TROOP BACK IN TOWN?

Rumor has it that Troop 38 (sponsored by Calvary United Methodist Church at 6301 Winchester Road here in Waynedale will be re-chartering or registering as a troop with Miami District come February or March of 2010. At least two leaders and 5 boys are required for a group to register as a troop. The names of the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster have yet to be announced. The boys that will form the troop are Cub Scouts in their last season of being Webelos Scouts and will be doing a cross-over into the troop come next spring.

Troop 38 took its first step as a troop back about 1990-91 with Ray McCune and Richard Linsey taking the roles of Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster respectfully. Over the years since, Troop 38 has changed Scoutmaster 3 times and has produced 12 Eagle Scouts as the plaque on the wall in the entrance hallway indicates.

Calvary UMC sponsors Cub Scout Pack 3322 and it’s from this group that Troop 38 will gain enough boys to start up again. Troop 38 failed to re-charter last year due to all their boys aging out and or moving to other areas.

Anyone interested in gaining more information on Troop 38 please contact the Charter Organization Representative Chris Rowlett at: 747-0937 or if you’re interested in more information on their Cub Scout Pack, please contact the Cub Master Shannon Bleakney at 747-9394. Cub Pack 3322 meets every Tuesday night at 6:30 PM. Troop 38 will be meeting every Monday night at 7:00 PM.
