U.S. ARMY HITS GRAND SLAM WITH JERSEY AUCTION

Wizards fans raise $3,950 for Special Operations Warrior Foundation

Fans of the Fort Wayne Wizards raised a total of $3,950 in a camouflage jersey auction on Saturday, August 9 in an effort to support the Special Operations Warrior Foundation of the U.S. Army.

Throughout the 2008 season, Wizards players and coaches were donned in camouflage jerseys as a salute to the U.S. Army. On Saturday, the jerseys were auctioned off in a silent bidding process that started when the gates to Memorial Stadium opened and ended after the sixth inning.

The highest bid on an individual jersey went for former Wizard Mat Latos at a price of $250.

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides scholarships and financial aid for children whose parents were killed in an operational mission or training accident in the line of duty.

Also, the U.S. Army conducted an Oath of Enlistment for new enlistees during a special pre-game ceremony. More than 15 new enlistees were sworn into the U.S. Army during the event.
