NEW PARK SPLASHPADS OPEN IN WAYNEDALE
The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department opened a new splashpad at Waynedale Park this week. This playground facility has the added dimension of water jets for children to enjoy.
“Splashpads provide the kind of fun that kids have when they run through the sprinklers at home, while adding color and variety to the experience,” said Al Moll, Director of Parks & Recreation. “From a taxpayer’s perspective, splashpads provide water sport at a low cost and with no environmental concerns.”
Neighborhood representatives at Waynedale park site were involved in the selection of this specific splashpad. The splashpad cost $100,000 and was installed by RecSource, Inc. Funding came from the $10 million 2005 Parks bond.
“The Department installed the City’s first ‘sprayground’ in 2002 at Memorial Park, and the success of this one splashpad led us to plan five more,” said Moll. “We have finished the Waynedale and McCormick parks, and will complete three more next summer at Buckner, Lawton and Shoaff Parks.”
