COUNCILMAN’S CORNER

The outpouring of support for Army Corporal Jonathan Blair who was killed in Iraq on November 19, 2005 was more evidence of our community’s support for those in military service and our veterans. Corporal Blair joined the U.S. Army after 9-11-01 and was obviously a dedicated soldier and a patriot. All of us offer our condolences to the family of this amazing young man.

Even though winter doesn’t officially start until December 21, the snow and low temperatures are here and the snowplows are rolling. I’ve received mainly positive reports about the snow removal job city crews have been doing. I heard one report of possible delayed snow removal on Bluffton Road. The Street Department snowplow teams are just getting started for this winter and I’m inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt this early in the season. Call 427-1235 if your street isn’t plowed in a reasonable time and be sure to let me know if there’s any ongoing problem with snow removal. During recent years Street Department snow removal crews have done a solid job and I expect this will continue in the future.

Soon neighborhood leaders will receive request forms for CEDIT funded neighborhood projects. Be sure to give your neighborhood president your input regarding street and sidewalk repairs and other improvements needed in your area. Those requests should be returned to the office of City Council Research Assistant Molly McCray, by March 15th of 2006.

This is a great time of the year with holidays and family activities. Have a great holiday season and 2006! Give me a call with any concerns and/or suggestions regarding our city!

P.S. I have had calls about the financial implications of the airlines Shuttle America leaving Fort Wayne. I am researching that and will provide detailed information in my next column in two weeks.
