YOUTH ESSAY CONTEST
What: Richard Lugar’s Ninth Annual Youth Essay Contest
When: Contest brochures were mailed to public schools beginning September 7. All essays must be mailed in no later than October 18, 2004. Brochures will also be available at www.infarmbureau.org
The essay contest is designed to increase the awareness of young Hoosiers as to the significance of Indiana agriculture, how it relates to the food supply and to their personal health. The theme for this years contest is, “The Perfect Pizza meal with products grown on or originated from the Indiana Farm.” More information is available from your County Farm Bureau or your school principal.

WOMEN HELPING
WOMEN
When: September 17 & 18
Where: Casual Corner & Petite Sophisticate at Glenbrook Mall will be collecting gently worn suits and career wear from 10am-9pm
What: These contributions will be donated to Charis House, which is part of the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission, caring for homeless women and children. These clothes will be used to help women begin a new career path and gain financial independence

WEDDING DISPLAYS
Who: The History Center, 302 East Berry
What: Showcase of over sixty wedding displays

Over sixty displays featuring vintage and contemporary wedding dresses as well as memorabilia, period music, photos, video, traditions and much more will be on view at the History Center

Why: All proceeds from this event will go towards building the All-Faith Chapel at Veterans Memorial Shrine on O’Day Road

Who: Saint Michael Lutheran Church

WINE TASTING
Who: Cystic Fibrosis & Psychology Club at IPFW
What: Wine tasting of over 70 wines, food from local restaurants and alternative drink stations that includes import beer and martinis
When: Friday, Nov. 19
from 6:30-10pm
Where: Historical Tower Bank Building in downtown Fort Wayne
Cost: The entrance fee in advance is $40, which includes a free wine tasting glass, or $45 at the door. There will be live music as well as a silent auction. Proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the event will be sponsored by TransWorks. 90- cents of every dollar will go to the foundation. HUNGER WALK
Who: The Lutheran Foundation, The Salvation Army, The Franciscan Center, The Miss Virginia House and the Associated Churches.

What: The Lutheran Foundation will match dollar for dollar the money collected in the Hunger Walk. All dollars stay here in Allen County to fight hunger close to home. Walkers can secure pledges from friends and family to help re-stock food banks, and money they secure will be doubled. What: 35th Annual Christian Women’s Prayer Breakfast

A WEEKEND BACK IN TIME

Nature has been supplying people in the Waynedale area with the things they have needed for thousands of years. Join us for a weekend back in time and try to live off the land for yourself. Watch Erik Vosteen create stone knives, projectile points, and similar stone tools through flint-knapping, and try to create one yourself. Give natural dyes a try, or make a pioneer era toy to take home, and have Bob McCullough of IPFW Department Anthropology tell you more about what you have. Meet local archaeologist John Waddell, and find out what sorts of archaeological activities are going on right here in Allen County. The Fort Wayne History Center will also be giving demonstrations. These activities will be going on all weekend at Fox Island County Park, around Bowman Lake. This will be a great weekend for all ages.
