HEADWATERS PARK ICE RINK IS POISED TO BREAK SKATING RECORD

The Headwaters Park Ice Skating Rink will close for the season on Sunday, FEBRUARY 28, at 8:00 pm. The rink opened on November 21 for its seventh season.

Each season, the ice rink averages about 20,000 skaters and about as many spectators. The greatest number of skaters occurred during the 2006-2007 season, when 23,706 skaters were recorded.

So far this season, the rink has recorded over 22,700 skaters. With favorable weather conditions predicted for the week, it appears the rink is on track to break that record by closing time on Sunday, February 28. There have been nearly 138,000 total skaters that have accumulated over the years of operation.

The outdoor rink is the only one of its kind in at least a 50 mile radius. The Headwaters Park Alliance has operated the rink for the past seven seasons, and rates have not been raised in five years. Admission prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children 13 and under; and skate rental is $2 per person. There is a warming room, concession stand, restrooms and free parking.

Current plans are for the rink to close on February 28 and be disassembled and stored. The rink will then reopen next November for an eighth season.
