MAYOR GRAHAM RICHARD
It is that time of year again when the temperatures cool and the leaves start to fall. The City of Fort Wayne’s Street Department is gearing up for another year of leaf pickup. This year’s program will begin on October 13 and run through December 19.
Leaves will be collected in the Waynedale area the weeks of October 27-31, November 17-21 and December 15-19. There are a few simple rules for residents to remember this fall: leaves should be ready for pick-up on the first day of the area’s scheduled week and should be raked to the park strip area or placed in brown biodegradable bags and set at the curb. If you use biodegradable bags, call the Street Department at 427-1235 for pickup within two business days. Leaves should not be raked into the street where they could block cars or drainage ditches.
To make fall cleanup even easier, the City has set up a Leaf Hotline providing locations of where crews will be picking up leaves each day. The number is 427-2302. That information is also available on the City’s web site, www.cityoffortwayne.org.
Leaf pickup is a major project for Fort Wayne’s Street Department. Last year, crews hauled more than 4,700 truckloads of leaves, totaling more than 16,000 tons of leaves! That number is certain to increase this year with the addition of another leaf pickup crew. This is just another great service for our residents that helps to keep neighborhoods beautiful.
