THREE RIVERS CROCHET GUILD

Gathering in the Michael’s Craft Store classroom, the Three Rivers Crochet Guild meets the second Monday of every month.

“We’re not too structured…” said member, Joan Botas, “we just enjoy each others company.”

This free organization welcomes all levels, from eager to learn to eager to teach. Each member shares their ideas and techniques for new projects. The group ranges from young to old, from 3 members to a dozen, depending on the year. The guild follows a beginner crochet class that meets from 6:00 to 8:00PM on the same day. The guild constantly encourages new members. “Our group is small right now, but we’d love to rebuild,” Botas said.

The ladies in the guild are currently working on around-the house items such as socks and scour pads.

The guild reaches far beyond the walls of the classroom, however. Crocheting Christmas ornaments, infant’s caps for “Christchild” religious organizations, and wreaths for the Botanical Conservatory auctions are just a few charitable endeavors they are involved with. Each winter, Botas and her husband collect crochet hats, scarves, mittens and sweaters for veterans who are having difficulty finding a job. Also collected are canned goods and donations. “You would not believe the looks on these people’s faces,” Botas said.

Botas and her group also participated in the past Muddy River Run car show. Allegedly many of the ladies grouped together and formed their own version of a craft show. Using the money from sales, 100% was donated back to the community. “It was nice to have something for the ladies,” said Botas

From crafters to charity workers, the ladies of the Three Rivers Crochet guild have taken their trade and utilized it to its fullest degree. Whether you are interested in helping your community, or just need a therapeutic method to unwind, the guild is fun and relaxing for women (and men too!) of all ages.
