IN A BOY SCOUTS’ WORDS

The Miami District, BSA, and The Waynedale News are proud to announce the first awards of the Scout Press Corps. The Scout Press Corps was created last spring to disseminate information on Boy Scouting activities and meetings and to do it in the boy’s own words.

Waynedale News Editor Bob Stark presented the awards and encouraged the Scout’s to pursue journalism.

Scouts John Dukarski, Brian Shawver, and Rob Dukarski were presented awards at the November Boy Scout Leaders Roundtable at Waynedale United Methodist Church.

•John Dukarski was published in The Waynedale News and chronicled the international cooking contest at the District Spring Camporee held at Roush Reservoir, Huntington.

•Brian Shawver was upset when his History teacher relayed to the class what a pitiful condition Chief Little Turtles gravesite was in. Brian then took it upon himself to organize a cleanup for the grave, located at Lawton Park, with the aid of the Parks Department. Brian said, “That is the guy that our Boy Scout Camp is named after. That should be a place of honor.” Brian accomplished the cleanup, with the aid of his fellow Scouts, and then he wrote about the effort. The Fort Wayne Newspapers picked up on Brian’s story, as did several other local television stations.

•Rob Dukarski followed his father’s (Scoutmaster Andy Dukarski) efforts to obtain a vanity plate to display the Unit number designation. Andy is now proudly promoting his Unit as he drives. Rob was published in The Waynedale News.
