ROBERT WILLIAM SHUMAKER, 92
ROBERT WILLIAM SHUMAKER, 92, passed away peacefully in the loving care at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home on Sunday, February 17, 2008.
He was born in Fort Wayne on February 7, 1916 to the late Fred and Gladys (Woods) Shumaker, he was married to Minnie (Bradbury) Shumaker for 67 years, who survives. They had 2 children: Robert Wayne Shumaker who preceded him in death in 2006 and Susan (Kim) Chancy of Fort Wayne.
He was a graduate of Elmhurst High School and proudly served in the army during WWII in the field artillery division in Europe. He was a devoted and appreciative employee of G.E. for over 37 years and was given awards of recognition for his dedicated and loyal service and retired from there in February 1978.
During his lifetime he had enjoyed fishing, bowling and traveling with his wife Minnie to all states except Alaska and Hawaii and spent many enjoyable winters in Florida.
Other survivors include 5 grandchildren: Randy Shumaker of Tollhouse, California, Lauri (Darrin) Werling of Ossian, Amanda (Andy) Jones of Leo, Mindi (Kent) Herstad of Markle and Steve (Jennifer) Ball, Jr. of Huntington; 7 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn (Antoine) Perry of Fort Wayne and brother Wilbert Bradbury of Antwerp, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Donald Wayne Shumaker in 1996.
Service was at 10am on Friday, February 22 with the Rev. Gordon Samra officiating at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road in Waynedale with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2-8pm, Thursday, February 21 at the funeral home. Burial at Nine Mile Cemetery.
Preferred memorials to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home on Homestead Road or the Red Cross.
