“Now maybe some of our boys will be able to attend summer camp AND do it in proper uniform,” said Walter Pressler Jr., Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 344. “Going to summer camp is a great experience for young boys and it gives them a chance to earn merit badges toward advancement that they normally wouldn’t get to otherwise.”

Troop #344 is sponsored by Waynedale United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Old Trail Road and Church Street. Andy Dukarski is the Scoutmaster.
“Every year we have parents that have to turn down their son’s request to go to Summer Camp at Anthony Wayne Area Council’s Camp Chief Little Turtle because of lack of funds,” Walter continued.

“Some of the boys’ parents can’t afford the $242 it takes for a one-week camp session,” he said. With this money we’ll be able to not only send some boys to camp but we’ll also be able to repair some of our tents and maybe even purchase a few new ones.”

“The Venture Crew (older Scouts) was also awarded a part of this gift to help with their programs,” Walt continued. “We are truly ‘Happy Campers’. Thank you American Legion for your wonderful gift.”

(Walter Pressler Jr. is a registered/trained adult leader in the Scouting program and has been for some 32 years here in the Waynedale area and he has also been a member of the Sons of The American Legion for over 20 years.)
