GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR EDUCATION WING & CHURCH RENOVATION

On Sunday, September 15th, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish held a groundbreaking ceremony and blessing for its education wing expansion as well as for its future church renovation.

Presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony and blessing was Msgr. Robert Schulte, Vicar General of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend and founding pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish. Songs, readings, prayers and blessings made up the groundbreaking ceremony.

Participating in the groundbreaking ceremony with shovels and hard hats were Father Jim Shafer, Msgr. Robert Schulte, Dr. Mike Mastrangelo, Jon Lassus, Lois Widner, Molly Slocum, Gary Torkeo and Doug Kinder. Dozens of parishioners, including school families and religious education families, were present to take part in the groundbreaking and blessing. Dozens of children from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish were also present.

The first phase of the construction is to expand the education wing to add 11 new classrooms for the school and religious education, a youth group room, a media center and meeting rooms for adult faith formation. The estimated completion date for the education wing expansion is August 2014.

The second phase of the construction is to make renovations to the church to improve and enhance the prayer space for the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish community. The estimated completion date of the church renovations is March 2015.

Campaign co-chairs are Dr. Mike Mastrangelo and Jon and Kathy Lassus. Capital campaign coordinator is Janet Chrzan. Project manager is Ron Glotzbach. The construction company that will expand the education wing and renovate the church is Michael Kinder and Sons.

Rain was expected on the afternoon of September 15th. The rain held off until well after the groundbreaking and blessing.
