MODEL A’S GATHER BETWEEN THE RAINDROPS
There was a short window of time between the early afternoon showers and the evening rains, but it was just long enough for Kingston Residence to pull off their annual Good Old Days celebration in style.
20 Model A cars from the Old Fort Model A’s braved the weather to continue the tradition. Model A car owner Pam Baxter said with a smile, “Looking back, we have had such good success with this event at Kingston; however, this is year number 13, and if we were going to have bad weather, this would be the year!”
Tim McCulloch of Scheerer McCulloch Auctioneers, Inc. stayed busy the entire event appraising items that attendees brought with them. From old blotter cards to Siamese cat figurines, he had a wide array of unusual items to review. Resident Marge Shelton said, “I was pleasantly shocked to learn that an antique silver charm bracelet I owned was worth much more than I had anticipated.”
Although the Caramel Corn was prepared in Ossian then transported to Kingston due to the early afternoon rain, it was fresh and delicious. Executive Director Erin Floyd stated that it is always a very popular feature of the event and people were worried when they didn’t see the stand set up. No one left hungry or disappointed from this event as Kingston served homemade beef stew and biscuits, applesauce jello and ice cream for dessert.
While enjoying their dinner, everyone sang and tapped along to the fantastic music of the J Taylors, a talented husband and wife team who regaled the attendees with music from across the decades.
A handbag sale and silent auction benefiting the Fort Wayne Trails, Waynedale Initiative, netted over $500. Marketing director Camille Garrison states that, “The fund has grown to close to $6,000 from past events that Kingston has hosted such as their annual Dinner Dance and Taste of Waynedale. Our thanks to the generous ladies at Curves on Bluffton Road for their purse donations. Our goal is to create a safe pedestrian connection across the Lower Huntington Bridge and into the St. Mary’s trail beneath the bridge. Both Fairfield and Tillman Roads are narrow and it’s challenging to maneuver a car, let alone a bike to get to the trailheads in either direction. Additionally, we’d like to see the Ardmore Trail Extension completed.”
