KEEFER REPLACES LINDSAY AS HEAD FOOTBALL COACHThis Friday, September 21 Bishop Luers High School will play Concordia Lutheran at Zollner Stadium. Steve Keefer will be heading the Luers football program as announced on Monday afternoon when Keefer spoke to the press after the school had their closed practice.

Thought of by players as a great coach and person, athletic director and head football coach Matt Lindsay was released on Sunday, September 16 from his 33 years at Bishop Luers, 26 of them was as head football coach.

“It has been a special time and a great 33 years at Bishop Luers,” Lindsay said. “I love the people and the kids, and I wish them the best.” Principal Mary Keefer called the former coach a dear friend.

Lindsay led many Luers players to state championship games-nine state titles in all as head coach, and ten, if you include when he was the assistant coach. The release read that Matt Lindsay was terminated because of “violations of school and Diocesan policies and violations of his employment contract obligation.”

“We have been friends for years. It is a shock for the community,” Keefer said about Lindsay. “I would just tell our community not to speculate with what you don’t know.”

Steve Keefer, 66, the new football coach for the remainder of the 2012 season, was currently serving as their freshman coach. He has been a part of the Luers success, coaching the Knights from 1979 to 1986. He is the husband to Bishop Luers principal Mary Keefer.

Matt’s son, Kyle Lindsay, will stay on with the coaching staff and continue his duties as offensive coordinator. Assistant athletic director Diane Karst and athletic secretary Joni Kuhn continue in their positions.
A new athletic director is yet to be announced.
