The second annual Blue Ball Open golf outing was held on Friday, August 5 raising awareness for prostate cancer in the Fort Wayne area. Local sportscaster Kent Hormann and Executive Editor of The Waynedale News Cynthia Cornwell were the event organizers.
With the support of title sponsor Lutheran Health Network and Lutheran Life Villages, Five Star Distributing Inc., Northeast IN Urology and many other corporate and private sponsors, along with 24 teams, the Blue Ball Open successfully raised over $16,000.
“We cannot thank the sponsors, golfers and supporters of this outing enough,” said co-chair Cornwell. “A portion of the proceeds from this outing will go towards organizations like Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.”
On Thursday, September 29, 2011 Kent Hormann, Cynthia Cornwell and CEO of Lutheran Health Network Joe Dorko presented Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana representative Amber Recker a check in the amount of $10,000.
Cancer of the prostate is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men, apart from lung cancer. 218,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.
