KINGSTON RESIDENTS COMPETE IN SENIOR MARATHON

KINGSTON RESIDENTS COMPETE IN SENIOR MARATHONSix Kingston Residence residents ranging in age 78 to 94 years competed in their first Fort 4 Fitness Senior Marathon. The race began on Wednesday, July 6th at Parkview Field where the contestants registered and walked their initial 1/3 mile around the field concourse. Over the next 12 weeks, each participant was challenged to walk an average of two miles per week. As the race ended on Friday, September 23, each participant was to have accumulated a total of 26 miles which equals a full marathon.

However, these Kingston residents weren’t satisfied to walk only 26 miles. Kingston provided pedometers and measured walking paths both inside and outside the building. Each resident tracked their daily steps and every single one of them exceeded 50 miles over the 12 week period!

Braving a light rain, they celebrated the end of the marathon by walking around the outskirts of Parkview Field’s grassy baseball field and crossing the finish line at home base. The group also cheered on the children who competed in the Kid’s Marathon and finished Friday night as well.

When asked if he will participate again next year, resident Bob Dove replied, “Yes, I sure would. This has been a good incentive to keep moving and get exercise. You have to continue to use it or you will lose it.”

Betty King, the most senior participant at 94 years young said, “It was a challenge but I am so glad I could do it. I really enjoyed being a part of it.”

Those who participated from Kingston Residence include Bob Dove, Maxine Ford, Jean Keuneke, Betty King, Donna Ross and Clarence Saylor. Each expressed an interest in continuing with their walking regime, so the next trip planned will be through the “Walk USA” program on the internet where they can track their progress as they walk coast to coast. Congratulations to all the Kingston residents who completed the Fort 4 Fitness Senior Marathon!
