CHALMER VINCENT STEELE JR., 69

CHALMER VINCENT STEELE JR., 69, of Ossian, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital. Born January 6, 1940, in Bluffton, he was the son of the late Chalmer Vincent Sr. and Margaret (McCormick) Steele. He worked as a material handler at General Electric, retiring after over 20 years of service in 1990. He was a member of Hope Missionary Church, Bluffton; was a realtor and apartment owner; and had graduated from Bluffton High School.

 

Surviving are his wife, Jean Steele of Ossian; daughters, Jennifer Harris-Steele, Kara (Robert) Cassidy of Denver, Colo. and Kendra (Michael) Kearns of Indianapolis; step-daughters, Shanda Harris of Ossian and Melinda Roberts of Elizabeth, Colorado; stepsons, Scott (Monica) Harris of Ossian and Mark (Lisa) Osborn of Fort Wayne; brother, Bobby J. (Jane) Steele of Ossian; and 12 grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Clara Lou Mygrant and Betty Wittwer.

Funeral service was 3 p.m. Sunday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel, 6424 Winchester Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Tony Robles officiating. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials to Jennifer Harris-Steele College Scholarship Fund or the American Heart Association.
