CLARENCE R. KELLER, 89
CLARENCE R. KELLER, 89 of Fort Wayne, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Lutheran Hospital. Born July, 25, 1917, in Fort Wayne, he lived most of his life in the Waynedale area on Indianapolis Road, also known as Kellerville. He was a member of the Waynedale Church of Christ. A U.S. Army WWII Veteran, he was with the 5th Armored Division, and participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Buldge. He was a driver for Norwalk Truck Lines for over 32 years; and after ‘retiring’, he continued to work until incapacitated by his first stroke at age 87: building decks, constructing and repairing buildings, doing yard work and snow removal, etc. for individuals and businesses.
He was also a skilled carpenter and woodcrafter and blessed his many friends and family members with his beautifully crafted gifts, until his stroke.
His life exemplified his walk with Jesus Christ; he was always willing to help someone in need, and he left a beautiful legacy of his strong Christian values, generosity and incredible work ethics. As busy as he was he always found time to visit with his numerous friends in the Waynedale area, and he could frequently be found at Karen’s Kitchen relaxing with a cup of coffee, surrounded by acquaintances.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Myrtle Keller, sons, Robert (Donna) Keller of Fort Wayne and Steve (Jan) Mesa, Arizona, seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Service was held at Covington Memorial Funeral Home, on Monday, April 16, 2007. Burial with full military honors was in Covington Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made in honor of Clarence, to Waynedale Church of Christ.
