John Wright opened his Waynedale Pizzeria on May 27, 2004. It was his second restaurant in the Fort Wayne area and he recently opened his third restaurant on Dupont Road. As a small business owner he has experienced all the ups and downs of owning and operating his own restaurants. He said, “This year has been especially tough but we managed to hold our prices down even as food and energy prices have had double digit increases.”

John and his wife Jennifer are both Fort Wayne natives. John is a 1989 graduate of South Side High School and a 1995 graduate of IPFW. Jennifer is a 1990 graduate of Bishop Luers High School and a 1994 graduate of Lutheran College of Health Professions. Jennifer was especially excited to open a Hungry Howie’s location in Waynedale because that is where she grew up. John and Jennifer live in South Wood Park and love living on the south side of Fort Wayne. They enjoy being involved in many south side activities such as sponsoring Foster Park Little League, the annual Waynedale picnic, and donating free pizza parties to the local schools.

After working in the corporate world for five years, John and Jennifer decided to start looking into small business opportunities and that is when they decided to get involved in the Hungry Howie’s franchise. The first Hungry Howie’s in Fort Wayne opened on May 26, 2003 in Covington Plaza.

John explained that the restaurant business is very competitive. Most successful restaurants have a specialty that distinguishes them from the others in the business. At Hungry Howie’s it is their FREE flavored crust. “Once people try our specialty, flavored crust pizzas they keep coming back for more.” The flavored crust options include: Butter, Butter Cheese, Sesame, Roasted Onion, Garlic Herb, Cajun, Ranch, and Original.

John’s favorite pizza is pepperoni with Cajun Sesame. Jennifer loves the low-carb thin veggie pizza with Roasted Onion.

Howie’s also serves up wonderful oven baked subs, wings, breads, and salads. In Waynedale the general public is continuing to discover the quality product that John has developed.
Three restaurants are not enough. John has hopes of opening a fourth location in the Northeast area of Fort Wayne. With great service, competitive pricing and flavored crusts John and Jennifer hope to enjoy many more anniversaries in the Waynedale area.
