Auditions for William Shakespeare’s THE TAMING OF THE SHREW will be held Sunday, September, 29, 2002 from 2pm to 4pm in the Gunderson Auditorium in Achatz Hall of Science on the USF campus. TAYLOR UNIVERSITY FORT WAYNE CAMPUS
Ground breaking ceremonies for TUFWC’s new library, will take place during the campus’ Homecoming/Parents’ Weekend, Saturday, September 28, at 12:30pm. The library will connect to the recently built Eicher Student Commons. The over 41,000 square foot facility will comprise three levels and represent the cutting edge practices, technologies, and flexibility in response to the every-changing learning environment.
The main level of the library will be the public service area with circulation and reference services. A listening/viewing area housing the AV collection, a library instruction facility and a reading area with current periodicals will also be part of the main level. The upper level will accommodate the circulating book collection and bound periodicals; this will also be a place for quiet study. The Instructional Materials Center (IMC) will be located on the lower level. The IMC facilities will be enhanced with a work area, a seminar room, curricular materials, and children’s books. BISHOP LUERS HIGH SCHOOL
BLHS TO HOLD FUNDRAISER
BLHS will hold its Annual Student Fundraiser Friday, October 4, 2002. The 22nd Annual Walk-A-Thon is scheduled to begin in the school gymnasium at 9:15am following an all school Mass. The Walk travels through south Fort Wayne area neighborhoods and Foster Park. Each of Luers’ 624 students is asked to raise a minimum of $60 in order to participate in the walk. The money raised is to support general operating expenses for Bishop Luers High School. The goal for the school this year is $36,000.
FROM A LETTER TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS OF STUDENTS AT BLHS
The beginning of a school year always produces many emotions. Nervousness, excitement, apprehension and new beginnings are all part of the experience. This year has been no different. Bishop Luers High School is off to a fantastic start. Lockers and classroom locations have been mastered. New acquaintances have been made; old ones have been renewed. Hopefully a new manageable routine has been established at school and at home.
BLHS welcomes the following new staff members: Jeanne Fisher-art, Jamie Henley-math, David Schurger-band, Justina Huhn-cafeteria, and Deb Osterhiold-cafeteria. Familiar faces in new positions include: Tracy Edgerton-assistant principal, Becky Handel-Guidance director, Kelly Metzger-guidance, Tina Gasnerez-test coordinator, Jason Draper-technology coordinator, and Jodie Korte-maintenance.
Bishop D’Arcy has kicked off the Annual Bishop’s Appeal. Please be generous when approached in your parishes. This fundraiser directly benefits BLHS in a very generous way. This year the Appeal, with Bishop’s blessing, shared $55,000 for general operating purposes. In addition, $20,000 was donated to assist our school in financing the recent teacher pay raise. Our gratitude is great, as I hope your heart is when you are asked to contribute. The plan at BLHS is to have our best school year ever. Your support and your prayers assist us in this goal. EAGLE’S NEST YOUTH CENTRE
ENYC is located at 6011 Hessen Cassel Road. Their hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 3:30pm to 9:30pm. Their 2002 – 2003 program schedule has been announced. Programs start the week of September 23, 2002. Registrations for all programs will be taken at the Eagle’s Nest Youth Centre during the week of September 17-19, 2002 on Tuesday-Thursday from 9am to 11am and 4pm to 7pm. The registration fee is $5 per child, not per program.
Late registration will begin September 22 – September 30 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4pm to 7pm. Late registration fee is $10 per child. Registration includes special programs during school breaks. Parents can register their children for the following programs: Project Reads/K-3rd grades: Tuesdays 3:30pm to 5:30pm Homework Help & Arts/K-12th grade: Mondays-Thursdays 3:30pm – 6pm. Movie/Food/Games Nights: Tuesdays/6pm to 8pm – K-5th grades Wednesdays/6pm to 9pm – 6th-8th grades – Thursdays/6pm to 9pm – 9th-12th grades Youth Light Club/6th-12 grades: Thursdays/5pm to 6pm Transportation to TEEN COURT & TEAM TV when programs are in session.
