STARDUST BALL
The STARDUST BALL, featuring Francie Zucco and the Stardust Band, is the place to be on Saturday, October 19, 2002. This elegant evening will feature superb music, great dancing, excellent food, and a dance demonstration by members of the Academy of Ballroom and Social Dance. There will be a wide variety of ballroom music, including waltzes, foxtrots, tangos, cha cha’s, rumbas, and more for your listening and dancing pleasure. Ballroom dance lesson are offered prior to the Ball. The STARDUST BALL will take place at Park Edelweiss, 3355 Elmhurst Drive, the new home of the German Heritage Society and the Fort Wayne Mannerchor/Damenchor. Festivities begin at 6pm, followed by dinner and dancing. Reservations required-please call 489-8619; black tie suggested.

 

HISTORY OF LUTHERANS IN AMERICA
Bethany Lutheran Church, 2435 Engle Road is hosting a presentation on the History of Lutherans in America by Prof. Cameron McKenzie on Sunday, October 13, 2002 at 1pm in celebration of Bethany’s 50th Anniversary. ATTENTION QUIET WARRIORS CHAPTER
You need to take note of the change of location for our next meeting. We will be moving to the Richard’s Restaurant in Westland Mall at the corner of Jefferson & Getz. EMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH TO SPONSOR GRIEF RECOVERY WORKSHOP
Beginning October 1, 2002, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W. Jefferson Street, will be hosting HOPE FOR TOMORROW, a grief recovery workshop designed to help those who have lost a loved one to death. This workshop is open to the public and will be offered free of charge on eight consecutive Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The lectures and small group sessions will deal with The Roller Coaster of Emotions, Tasks of Mourning, Grief’s Effects on the Whole Person, A ‘New” Normal, and other concerns of the grieving individual. EMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH TO SPONSOR DIVORCE RECOVERY WORKSHOP
Beginning October 1, 2002, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 W. Jefferson Street, will be hosting THROUGH THE FIRE, a divorce recovery workshop. This workshop is open to the public and will be offered free of charge on eight consecutive Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The lectures and small group sessions will deal with feelings and emotions, guilt, stress, co-dependency, forgiveness, getting your act back together, dating and remarriage, and children of divorce. FREE MATH & SCIENCE HOMEWORK HELP OFFERED BY ROSE-HULMAN COLLEGE
Just call 1-800-ASK-ROSE; between 7PM and 10pm, Sunday through Thursday from September through May (The Homework Hotline is closed during Rose-Hulman’s holiday and quarter breaks.) This service is FREE and is available to any student grades 6 – 12 who needs math or science homework help. Have your homework assignment, a textbook (if available), paper, pen or pencil, and a calculator (if needed). The tutors will not give you the answer to your problem but they are trained to ask the right questions to help students analyze the problems and find their own solutions.

FEATURED ARTIST FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER IS KAREN STARN
If you think of artists as being quiet, passive, and withdrawing, meet Karen Starn. This dynamic president and founder of the Fort Wayne Art Source is as vivid in real life as her watercolors and oils. Karen, and husband Bill, have three sons. Karen graduated from Indiana University with a degree in graphic arts. She has worked as an art director, advertising artist and illustrator for over 20 years. As owner of Three Oaks Studio, Karen enjoys doing commission work for local companies.
Karen’s primary media is watercolor; she has won numerous awards in local and regional art shows. Karen is experienced with acrylic, oils, pen and ink, pencil, and some forms of printmaking. She teaches watercolor classes at the Fort Wayne Art Source. She also teaches children’s drawing classes. Karen’s vivid watercolor florals are a delight; she also enjoys painting wildlife, portraits, and renderings of old buildings. Visit the gallery to enjoy Karen’s work, and while you’re there, think about trying a watercolor class. You just might surprise yourself.

Scouts are looking for good new or used uniforms. Are you, or your children, finished with scouting? Do you have uniforms or uniform parts (belts, shirts, pants, socks, etc.) – Boys & Girls sizes or Adult sizes) laying around in dresser drawers or hanging in the back of a closet? Please donate these items to us. We have boys, girls, and adults in need of uniforms. KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER ONE
The KWVA Indiana #1 will have their monthly meeting on October 12, 2002 beginning at 9am with breakfast at 7am at the American Legion Post 82 on Harris Road. The Legion Post is now open for breakfast again at 7am. Second nominations for 2003 Officers will be held at this meeting.
NOTE: Also remember to come and wave your American Flags at the Veterans’ Day Parade on Parnell Avenue, Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 11am. Be proud of your country and your veterans; be there.

 

CUB SCOUT PACK 3044 TO RECHARTER
We have located the Pack flags now we need a Cubmaster, An Assistant Cubmaster, Several Den Leaders, Boys 7 to 10 years of age, and other volunteers to help with our new-to-be Cub Scout Pack. Meetings will be held weekly either on a Wednesday or a Thursday night at the Portage Creek Camp Association Boy Scout Cabin at the corner of Lower Huntington Road and Ardmore Avenue here in Waynedale. Come on down to the Scout Cabin any Monday night from 7pm to 8:30pm and talk to us about helping to restart one of the oldest Packs in the area. Let’s keep it going.

ANNUAL SCOTTISH RITE CENTER CRAFT BAZAAR BOOTH RENTAL AVAILABLE
The Scottish Rite Center is proud to announce its 3rd annual Craft Bazaar to be held on October 26, 2002 from 10am to 3pm. All proceeds generated from booth rental fees and concessions will be donated to the Masonic Learning Center for Children, which offers free tutoring to children with dyslexia. The Bazaar is held in both the Valencia Ballroom and the Horseshoe Lobby and has featured in the past crafts of many kinds, such as woodworking, antiques, quilts, numerous handmade items, and more.
Booth rental reservations are being accepted at this time. Booth rental spaces start at $35. Only 60 booths will be accepted, so reservations are recommended in advance. Lunch and a bake sale will be available. Free parking will also be provided.
