ROCKET PARK “LIFT OFF”

Pleasant Center’s Pride and Joy – Rocket Park Opens – Go Rockets!
They did it! What started out as merely an idea only a year ago is now a reality. Thanks to the hard work, Pleasant Center Elementary PTA and many volunteers, they now are the proud owners of Phase I of a new playground, Rocket Park. This is the first time in over 25 years that the playground has been updated.

The PTA decided that it would be a good idea to first paint the existing equipment to give it a fresh look. A couple of workdays, and a little elbow grease and a lot of red, white and blue paint and they had their “new” look, but that just wasn’t quite enough. Research was done to determine the most cost effective and functional additions that they could purchase to make Pleasant Center a better school for the kids.

Once the decision was reached, it was determined that the best way to get the project off the ground was to divide the additional equipment that they wanted into phases. Of course, raising money for the playground then became a big concern. Doughnut sales, candy bar sales, the Santa Shop, roller skating parties, shirt sales, fish fries, and raffles not only brought enough activity and enthusiasm to the school, but also enabled them to raise the needed funds to purchase and install Phase I. The participation has been tremendous and the generosity of parents, teachers, students, and the community at large is so appreciated. The Spirit is alive at Pleasant Center!

On April 27, 2002, several moms, dads, and teachers, principal and spouses gave their time at the installation. A special thanks to Dan Shaw, who supervised the “crew” in the installation. By 4:00 p.m., Rocket Park was completely constructed despite battling with the rainy spring weather. Thanks to all for the support. With the pride that exists for their school and the hard work of kids, parents and staff, anything is possible. Go Rockets!
