FORT WAYNE ART SOURCE

(Non-Profit Gallery and Learning Center)

2812 Lower Huntington Road – Waynedale – 447-9834

The featured artist for the month of April is Else Matott.  This is a memorial exhibit dedicated to Else who passed away February 17, 2002.

Else Mattot loved flowers, especially wild flowers.  During her frequent walks through meadow and forest, she photographed the various species as they bloomed and later gathered seeds to sow in other locations, including her own gardens.  These beautiful and fragile blooms are the greatest inspiration for her watercolors.  She knew them intimately.  Else experimented successfully with other subject matter, such as her sea turtle, which was an award winner.

Born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Else began painting upon retirement.  She studied with John Ross, Willetta Blevins, and George McCulough.   She was an accomplished weaver and spinner, member and instructor at the ArtSource, Acres Land Trust, Artlink, and the Fort Wayne Artists Guild.  She enjoyed being out of doors and some people know her simply as “the herb lady”.  She will be missed by all.
