.FREEDOM DAY‑AT WAYNEDALE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

The economy seems to be getting worse and worse. We at Waynedale U.M. Church, are concerned about the needs of our community. We would like to meet those needs, so we are sponsoring our first ever FREEDOM DAY. We will be giving‑food, clothing, and household items FREE to any person who lives in the Waynedale area. Just come to the church at 2501 Church‑Street here in Waynedale, on SAT. May 17th between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and take what you need, free of any charge. In Matthew 25 we are told whatever we do for people in need we are doing for Christ. We at Waynedale U.M. Church believe this to be true and want to put this Scripture into action.

FOCUS ON HEALTH SITE IN WAYNEDALE

Avalon Missionary Church Family Life Center, corner of Lower Huntington Road and Baer Field Throughway will be a Focus On Health Site to offer health screenings and health education on Saturday, May 3, 2003 from 8am to 12noon at the Family Life Center.  For the 23rd year Focus on Health will provide health screenings and education to Fort Wayne and surrounding communities.  The Adult fairs will start on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 and run Wed – Saturday for 2 weeks ending May 3, 2003.  The health screenings include blood pressure, height and weight, vision, and colorectal cancer screening.  There will be learning centers and summary and referral also.  To participate in the colorectal cancer screenings, you my pick up a hemocult kit at the Fire Station on Bluffton Road and follow the directions, or you may pick up your kit at any Fort Wayne Fire Station or you may call the Focus on Health office at 481-4864.

 

THREE RIVERS CROCHET GUILD MEETING

Our next meeting will be on April 14th at Michael’s Craft Store in the Jefferson Pointe Shopping Center.  We meet in the classroom just to the right of the front entrance.  We meet on the second Monday of each month from 7pm to 9pm.  Anyone is welcome to attend, no matter what level of crocheters.  We help each other develop our skills and share our projects with each other.  For more information, call: 260-747-0601.

 

 

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY – FREE SKIN CANCER SCREENINGS

The Northeast Indiana Area office of the American Cancer Society is now scheduling appointments for free skin cancer screenings to be held Saturday, May 3, 2003 at four local hospitals.  Lutheran, Parkview Cancer Center, Parkview North, and St. Joseph hospitals will be hosting sites for these screenings, from 8am – 12 noon.   These screenings are an opportunity for area residents to have suspicious spots checked.  Advanced appointments are necessary.  For further information, or to schedule an appointment, please call Carmen Parker at the American Cancer society at 260-471-3911.  Appointments will be made on a first-come, first serve basis until all time slots are filled.

FREE TAX PREPARATION & FILING-DEPLOYED SERVICE PERSONNEL

It is our desire to support the men and women in our area who have been deployed to the Middle East as a result of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Colbert/Ball Tax Service is offering free tax preparation and filing to the men and women who have been deployed overseas.  We will work with spouses and others who have power of attorney to file.  We will need the following information:

WAYNEDALE UNITED METHODIST WOMEN’S NEWS

‘Friends Circle’ has decided to change their meeting time from evenings to afternoons.  They will meet the first Thursday of the month at 1pm.  So…those of you who may want to be in an afternoon Circle here’s the opportunity!

The WUMW – is sponsoring a crayon drive as part of our service to “Church Women United’.  The Fort Wayne District of U.M.W. has pledged 3,600 boxes of 24 count Crayola brand crayons.  Pleas help us by putting your donation of crayons in the boxes provided in the Narthex and in the information center next to Fellowship Hall, 2501 Church Street.  We are collecting crayons through May 2003 – Alberta McConnell, 747-7990.

BUS TRIP TO TOLEDO

The Churubusco Public Library Friends’ Group is sponsoring a bus trip to Toledo, Ohio on May 3, 2003.  Scheduled for the day is a tour of the newly renovated Toledo Lucas County Public Library; a docent guided tour of the Toledo Museum of Art and a bus tour of downtown Toledo.  A special highlight will be lunch at Tony Packo’s of M*A*S*H* fame and a stop at the Navy Bistro for a snack before leaving Toledo.  The price is $60, which includes entrance fees, transportation, driver’s tip and lunch.  Reservation deadline is April 15th.  Further information can be obtained by calling Carol M. CANTATA TO BE PRESENTED

“How Great Thou Art!” by David T. Clydesdale is the cantata to be presented by the combined choirs of Calvary United Methodist Church and First United Church of Christ on April 27, 2003 at the 9:30am service at Calvary United Methodist Church, 6301 Winchester Road.  The cantata features several soloists from both churches and tells the story of the last days of Jesus’ life on earth.

The New Builders’ annual Steak Dinner featuring steak, baked potato and their famous strawberry pie will follow the performance. The choirs will have a repeat performance on May 4, 2003 at the 10:30am service at the First United Church of Christ, 300 W. VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED TO HELP CANCER PATIENTS

The American Cancer Society is currently looking for ROAD TO RECOVERY volunteer drivers for Northeast Indiana.  If you have a few hours a week to spare and a car, ROAD TO RECOVERY may be for you.  As a ROAD TO RECOVERY driver, you will volunteer to take cancer patients, unable to drive, to and from cancer treatments at a local hospital or other health care provider.  For more information, or to obtain an application, please call Gavin Schubert at your local American Cancer Society office at 260-471-3911 or email gschubert@cancer.org.
