SCOUTING SMOKE SIGNALS

Members of Cub Scout Pack 3344 recently showed up practically at my doorstep. I first noticed them across the street at the Lakewood Park Association Pocket Park where they were fulfilling requirements for their Wolf badge that had to do with hoisting, lowering, and folding the American flag. Since the flag needed to be exchanged anyway, I took them a newer cleaner flag to run up the pole and let them practice folding the old worn out flag. I didn’t get the names of the boys or the two adult leaders but it was good to see that young people are still being taught how to respect and display our country’s greatest symbol of freedom. Thanks.

The Department of Homeland Security has established a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America and has asked Boy Scouts to pass out Ready Brochures on Boy Scout Overnite at the FW Wizards. The Ready Brochures are designed to educate families about the threat of terrorist attacks and what they can do to help them prepare themselves for emergencies. By helping to distribute these brochures, Scouts will complete requirements toward the new Emergency Preparedness Award, which helps to inspire Scouts and foster skills to help them prepare themselves, their families, and their communities. To help with distribution of these brochures, call Jared Parcell at the Wizards at 482-6400.
