MASTODONS ON PARADE
Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne is celebrating its fortieth anniversary. To commemorate this occasion, Fort Wayne will be “inhabited” with more than 100 individualized fiberglass replicas of the university’s mascot-“Masty” the mastodon. The entire “herd” will be on display May 1, 3-5pm during a Community Preview Party at Headwaters Park.
The mastodons, which will range in style from fine art to grand funk, are designed by artists and sponsored by area businesses and organizations. The mastodon artworks will be auctioned with proceeds benefiting United Way of Allen County.
Karen Starn, owner of Fort Wayne Art Source on Lower Huntington Road has been busy creating her own design for her sponsor, Isaac Knapp Dental Association. Karen completed the artwork and then sent it back for a protective coating, which will be applied to keep “Masty” looking good for a long time.
