LOCAL LIONS CLUB MEMBERS EARN COMMUNITY AWARDS
The Lions Club has been an active group in Waynedale and other areas of Fort Wayne for many years. This summer marked a number of extraordinary honors being awarded to some local members.
The following Lions Club events took place on June 10, 2014 at Brookwood Golf Course Club House. Although not pictured, Waynedale Lions Club Secretary, Lynn Henschen, received a Chevron Award for 45 years of Lions service with the Waynedale Club.
Of The Foster Park Lions Club, past President, Lion Ryan J. Stark was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship, presented by Lion President Lynn Shady.
The McMillen Park Lions Club also awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship to Lion Charles A. Colligan for his many years of dedicated service.
The Melvin Jones Fellowship was established in 1973 as a response to Lions’ request for a way to extend their commitment to Lions Club. The MJF is awarded in recognition of humanitarian work and to a member who makes a sizeable donation to the club. Each recipient of the MJF is given a lapel pin, a plaque, and a congratulatory letter as well as being invited to an annual luncheon held at the convention. The Melvin Jones Fellowship is the highest award in Lionism.
