The 2014 Germanfest sporting activities will ‘kick off’ with another Hofbräu Night soccer tournament along with other festivities on Tuesday, June 10th.  Fort Wayne Sport Club, located at 3102 Ardmore Ave in Fort Wayne, will host the event. Play in the 6v6 adult tournament will begin at 6:30 p.m. in both recreational ‘Weiss’ (white) and competitive ‘Blau’ (blue) divisions. Teams will need to be present at 5:30 p.m. for day-of registration. The tournament schedule and rules will then be presented at 6:15 p.m.

The 6v6 adult tournament will use a small-sided pitch with smaller-sized goals. Six players are allowed on the pitch but, games will be played with no goalies. A team should have no more than a dozen players on its roster. There will be no offsides nor slide tackling but all kicks are direct. The first rounds will be in a round-robin format with the winning teams moving on to the final rounds. The entry fee is $60 per team with each team being guaranteed at least three 25 minute games. The 6v6 tournament team entry form can be found on the Fort Wayne Sport Club Web Site: www.fortwaynesportclub.com. Please contact Chris Csicsko at csicsko@gmail.com or 260-403-6147 with any questions or to enter a team in the tournament. There will be prizes for the winning teams and lots fun for all. Please come to enjoy the soccer, food and fun.

Entertainment and refreshments will continue in the Club House following the tournament. In addition to great Hofbräu beer, the Fort Wayne Sport Club will be serving brats, served with Phil’s spicy sauerkraut if you choose; hamburgers and the world-famous Germanfest German potato salad. The Fort Wayne Sport Club Women’s Auxiliary will also be serving German cold cuts. There will also be new 2014 Hofbräu Night shirts for sale in the Clubhouse. These one-of-a-kind commemorative shirts will be available in blue, gray and black. Several other great draft beers are available at the Fort Wayne Sport Club bar including Köstritzer, Stella Artois, Guinness, Kilkenny, Black Crown and Bud Light. Many fine bottled beers are also available at the full-service bar.

While the soccer action continues on the pitch, beer garden entertainment will be abundant in the Clubhouse. Akkordeon – Jugend Orchester Osterland will begin performing at 6:30 p.m. while at 7:30 p.m., the Bolo Tie Line Dancers take the stage. The Bolo Tie Line Dancers come direct to us from Fort Wayne’s sister city in Germany: Gera. The dancers will also be featured later in the week on the main stage at Germanfest. Please plan on attending to watch the Sport Club teams compete as well as enjoy some food and Hofbräu beer. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated.

The Fort Wayne Sport Club was founded in 1927 by an active group of soccer players who immigrated to the Fort Wayne area from Germany in the aftermath of World War I. Their immediate goal was ‘the promotion of football (soccer) and German culture’ in the Northeast Indiana area. Today, the Fort Wayne Sport Club is a hub of soccer activity, with programs for recreational and competitive soccer players from age 4-years to 30-and-over. “We are extremely proud of our long history and heritage of encouraging participation in soccer at all levels throughout the area,” stated Dan Kruse, President of Fort Wayne Sport Club.
