NICK STAYANOFF, 85

NICK STAYANOFF, 85, of Fort Wayne, went home to be with Jesus on March, 11, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital. Nick was born on Jan. 21, 1929, at Lutheran Hospital. He graduated from Elmhurst High School. He married Jean Ann Fairfield on June 16, 1956. Her parents were Warren and Josephine Fairfield. Nick served in the United States Army. Returning from the army, he worked at Dana and farmed. Nick established and operated Nick Stayanoff Real Estate Services in 1967 which provided residential appraisal, auction and brokerage services. During the height of his career, he maintained offices in Fort Wayne, Huntington and Hartford City. Nick was a 40 year member of the Upstate Alliance of Realtors, as well as a member of the Farm Land Broker Institute. During his career, he received numerous awards in the industry including Farm Land Broker of the Year, and held various offices on the board of Realtors. Nick Stayanoff Appraisers will continue to operate. Nick loved being surrounded by his family and friends. He loved his Macedonian heritage. He was an avid gardener and prized his Macedonian heirloom peppers which were proven winners as Indiana State Fair Grand Champions. Nick enjoyed traveling, entertaining, perfecting his coney dog recipe, cooking and canning, history and aviation. He owned a plane and flew as a young man. Hallmarks of his personality were his natural charisma for life, physical and mental strength, positive “can-do” attitude and supervisory skills. Nick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Ann Stayanoff of Fort Wayne; children, Theresa (Kenny) Liggett of Churubusco, Nick (Shirley) Stayanoff III of Belton, S.C., Linda (Tom) Hotz of Noblesville, Barbara (Sam) Klemm of Fort Wayne, and Mary Beth (Kevin) Kohart of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Carl (Christy) Liggett of Churubusco, Luke Liggett of Westminster, Colo., Paul Liggett of Churubusco, Reid Stayanoff and Kendall Stayanoff, both of Belton, S.C., Michael (Kaitlyn) Hotz of Marion, Ashley Hotz of Noblesville, and Ben Kohart of Indianapolis; and three great-grandchildren. Surviving are his siblings, Christine Peterson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Helen Abshire of Kaplan, La. and Chris Stayanoff of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by parents, Nick and Vasilca Stayanoff; and siblings, Jack Stayanoff, Ann McNamara, Elizabeth Oven, and Mary Donawitch. Funeral service was March 15, 2014 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorial funds shall be to Harvest Fellowship Church, Leo, Ind; St. Mary’s Food Kitchen; or Shepherd’s House for homeless veterans.
