OPENING OF NEW RECYCLING CENTER & TRANSFER FACILITY

Earth First has completed the construction of its new Recycling Center and Transfer Facility. A press conference and celebration for the Grand Opening will be held on Friday, April 19 at 11:00 AM at 4429 Allen Martin Dr.

The new 20,000 sq. ft. facility, which represents an investment of over $2 million dollars and 15 new jobs, is Northeast Indiana’s only complete construction and demolition recycling operation. The new recycling center addresses growing regional and national demands for sustainability through the reuse and recycling of a large number of materials, most of which currently go into nearby landfills every day. These materials include brick, concrete, drywall, wood, shingles, cardboard, plastics, metals and paper.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency these construction and demolition materials account for nearly 40% of the national municipal solid waste stream, and with this new facility Earth First has the ability to recycle 50-60% of that material, well above the national average. The company has implemented unique recycling/reuse streams for these materials such as; drywall to be ground and spread across lime deficient farm fields, wood to be used in the creation of animal bedding, and shingles to be ground and reused in new asphalt paving. Earth First understands the importance of environmental sustainability and is able to accommodate all LEED based and “green” construction projects as well as work with customers to implement new sustainable business practices.

The facility will also accept general waste from the public; offering a fast, eco-friendly and economical alternative to dumping in area landfills. The facility will be open to the public starting on April 22, 2013 with hours of operation from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Monday to Friday, and 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturdays. For more information on pricing and acceptable waste please call the offices of Earth First at 260-436-8700.
