2 USF ATHLETES COSIDA ALL-DISTRICT
University of Saint Francis senior Zach Baron and sophomore Sarah Freygang have been selected for the 2012 Capital One Academic All-American District 3 Team.
This is the second consecutive selection for Baron (Fort Wayne, IN/Leo H.S.), who has 3.99 grade-point-average as an accounting major. Baron, a defender for USF, was a 2011 Capital One Academic First-Team All-American. Zach’s coaches are: Mitch Ellisen -Associate Athletic Director/Men’s Soccer, Jamie Werling-Assistant and Randy Smith-Assistant.
Freygang (Fort Wayne, IN/Snider H.S.) is a first-time selection who is a USF nursing major with a 3.98 GPA. Freygang also played defender for the USF women’s team and was a Crossroads League first-team selection.
Both are now eligible for consideration for the 2012 men’s and women’s national Capital One Academic All-American Team. Sarah’s coaches include: Christy Young-Women’s Soccer Coach and Stacey Litzenberg-Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program honors highest achieving student-athletes for combined academic and athletic success across all divisions of intercollegiate athletics. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) in BOTH undergrad and graduate work. Nominees must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at your institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one academic year at your institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games (in the position listed on the nomination form). Student-athletes are nominated by active sports information directors and selected in voting by SIDs.
