ORIGINAL POEMS 55 YEARS AGO (1957)

Patricia Peer’s 5th and 6th grade students at the old Waynedale Elementary School wrote this collection of original poems 55 years ago in the spring of 1957. I wonder where these people are now?

“SPRING” by Judy Hammons
Spring, Spring,
Oh, wonderful Spring
When flowers start blooming
And children are zooming.
Oh, how I love the birds that sing.

“SPRING RED BIRD” by Linda Norwalt
A Spring red bird am I
A sitting in a tree.
Singing songs of happiness
To cheer up you and me.

————————————————————

“MY KITE” by Margaret Specht
When I fly my gret big kite,
It always gets up in the tree.
I try to get it out,
But it won’t mind me.
I pull the string very hard
And it finally snaps.
There goes my poor kite;
I’ll make another one perhaps.

“FUNNY BUNNY” by Patricia Dennis
I saw the bunny one Easter day.
I was so happy; happy and gay.
The bunny was so little,
It made me laugh and giggle.
Spring Is Here by Connie Kohne
Spring is here-what a happy day.
The wind is blowing in a gentle way.
The grass will soon be very green.
Oh, what a gay, lovely scene.

“A CHURCH” by Joyce Fisher
I am an old church, but I am alert.
My grass is green, and how I gleam.
When my bells ring, and the people sing;
You know it’s time to come and bring
Your praises to the risen King.

“EASTER DAY” by Larry Otis
On Easter day I like to play.
I get up and dress in fine array.
I look for my basket everywhere.
I look in the window and find it there.

“EASTER TREAT” by Larry Edington
I’m a jolly jelly bean;
So round and sweet.
Sometimes I’m red, sometimes I’m green.
I’m a real Easter treat.

————————————————————

“THE ROBIN” by Barbara Boxell
I am just a robin;
Who’s just a bobbin,
When Spring is here.
I build my nest,
For baby red breast
When Spring is here.
I catch a worm,
And watch it squirm
When Spring is here.

————————————————————

“LILY” by Sandra Bunsold
I’m a lilly white.
I’m a pretty sight.
Though I’m very light,
I can be quite bright.

————————————————————

“GREEN” by Geary Bowers
I like to play in the Spring.
I’m the color green.
Oh, what happy smiles I bring,
When my face is seen.

————————————————————

“BASEBALL” by Jerry Mowery
I’m a little round ball.
I love to fly, I love to fall.
When the Dodger’s slug me,
I’m over the fence-Oh, weeeee
