SCOUTING AROUND WAYNEDALE

Don’t park yourself in front of the TV this winter

Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Cubs: You don’t have to stop camping just because the calendar says December, January, or February. Most state parks and reservoirs keep at least one section (loop) open in their campgrounds, and several have heated restrooms. One such open campground is located at my favorite place – “Salamonie Reservoir (Lost Bridge West).

They have a new bathhouse with male showers and toilets on one end and female showers and toilets on the other end. In the middle is a male/female handicap shower and toilet. These are to be open all year. The campground is open all year also with payment to be on the honor system. Go to the campsite of your choice, make sure no one is there, return to the main gate, fill out the paperwork, get your receipt, drop your paperwork and money in the slotted box, go back to the site, and enjoy your stay.

Visit the Nature Center at Salamonie while you’re there and meet a real live Eagle Scout. Do not feed it. His name is Marvin. Have fun.
