On Thursday, December 3, the Wayne Township precinct committee members elected Bruce Stier, a Fort Wayne attorney, to fill Maria Parra’s unexpired term on the Wayne Township Board. Maria resigned her position as a Wayne Township Board member in order to accept a position as the Technology Manager for the Fort Wayne Census office.

State law required that this position be filled by a vote of Democratic precinct committee members from Wayne Township.

Stier, an excellent addition, will be one of three board members, watching out for taxpayers’ interest and constantly striving for openness and accountability. He ran against two other people, Kevin Knuth, and Nol Beckley. Currently serving on the Board, President, Anthony Henry and Pat Turner, Board of Finance Chair and Secretary.

Mr. Stier was administered the Oath of Office by City Clerk Sandra Kennedy just prior to the December 8 Board meeting. Following the ceremony, he was welcomed to the Board by Wayne Township Trustee Richard Stevenson, the other Board members, Township staff and supporters.

Trustee Stevenson said, “We are excited to welcome Bruce to our Township team. His legal experience, professionalism and long-time involvement in our community will be an asset to our Board. I am looking forward to working with Bruce as we continue to serve our clients and residents of Wayne Township.”

The Township Board is the legislative branch of township government, with responsibility for approving the Trustee’s Office budget. The Township Board also adopts Township Assistance Eligibility Standards, sets tax rates, approves salaries for Township employees and advises the Trustee regarding Township business. The Board meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the Trustee’s Office at 320 East Superior Street. The public is welcome to attend Board meetings and comments are entertained at the close of the meeting.

Congratulations, Bruce, and thank you for your interest in serving the people of Wayne Township.
