HELYN 0. (GOOD) YOUNG, 90

HELYN O. (GOOD) YOUNG, 90, with a wink in the eye and a sweet smile, passed peacefully to heaven on Sunday, September 20, 2009. Helyn was born April 2, 1919 near Wichita Falls, TX, while her father was building oil rigs. Helyn then lived in Muncie, Indianapolis and Fort Wayne prior to moving to Waynedale where she lived for the past 76 years.

Helyn was a 1937 graduate of Elmhurst High School and worked at the Wayne Knitting Mill in Fort Wayne from 1937-1942. She graduated from Warner Beauty College in Fort Wayne, and Virginia Farrell Hair Styling Academy in Detroit, Michigan. Helyn operated her own hair salon in Waynedale until she retired at age 80.

Helyn was married to R. W. Good in 1941 and had two daughters, Rosalie and Margie. She was married to William J. Young in 1976, who died in 1981.

Helyn has been an active member of the Waynedale United Methodist Church for 76 years. She was a charter member of the Waynedale Chapter 600 of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Teti Sheri Temple No. 60. Her volunteer activities included the Red Cross Bloodmobile and the Fort Wayne International Airport Hosts Program.

Survivors include daughters, Rosalie (Don) Waldrop of Fort Wayne, Margie Good of Lansing, MI, grandson, Rod Waldrop of Atlanta, GA, and granddaughter, Rhonda Waldrop (Doug Brune), of Garland, TX. Extended family members are David (Diane) Waldrop of Fort Wayne, Pat (Bill) Russell of Atlanta, GA, David (Rosemary) Young, of Pleasant Lake, IN,  Ethel Strauss, Elkton, MD,  niece Rebecca Good (Jack Hill) of Fort Wayne, and special friend, Diann Deutsch.

To all who were involved with the physical, spiritual and comforting care of Helyn, a huge and heartfelt thank you.

A slogan that Helyn lived by all of her life was “Laughter Keeps Us Young At Heart.”  This theme will be present at the Celebration of Life Service, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, at the Waynedale United Methodist Church, 2501 Church St., Fort Wayne, IN (10:30 a.m. Eastern Star Service)  In attendance will be the Three Rivers Visiting Dogs who provided comfort and joy for Helyn when she needed it most.  A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
