LEO E. “JOHNNY” MURPHY, 87

LEO E. “JOHNNY” MURPHY, 87, of Ossian, formerly of Fort Wayne, died Thursday, December 25, 2008, at Bluffton Regional Hospital in Bluffton.

Born August 25, 1921, in Fort Wayne, he retired in 1984 as an over-the-road truck driver, working for Essex/United Technology. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the European Theater and Battle of the Bulge. He was also a member of Waynedale United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty M. (Morr) Murphy of Ossian; son, David (Sandra) Murphy of Fort Wayne; daughter, Marcia (Mike) Hoehn of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Stacy (Chris) Lamb, Chad Riley, Angie (Chad) Bell and Nikki Murphy; nine great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Winifred (Feichter) Murphy; and sister, Mary Phillips.

Service was Tuesday, December 30 at Waynedale United Methodist Church, 2501 Church Street, Fort Wayne. Visitation was Monday, December 29 at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
