OMER M. BECK, 86
OMER M. BECK, 86, died Friday, July 3, 2008, at Northern Lakes Nursing Home in Angola. Born in Hartford City, he lived in Fort Wayne most of his life. He joined the Marines in 1942 during World War II, and was deployed to the South Pacific for 30 months. He was the first person to join the Marine Corp Reserves in Fort Wayne. He transferred from the Marine Corp to the Seabees in the late 60s, retiring from the Seabees as a steel worker chief, in 1981.
He also retired from Fruehauf Trailer as a welder after 38 years of service, in 1985. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Amy Beck of Fort Wayne; son, Mark (Joyce) Beck of Columbia City; sisters, Betty Sells and Rita Boyer, both of Garrett; brother, David Beck of Garrett; and grandchildren, Gregory and Steven Beck.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris; sisters, Omal, Opal, Olive and Nancy; and brothers, Walter and Richard.
Service was Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 6301 Winchester Road, with visitation 30 minutes prior at the church. Visitation was also Monday, July 7, 2008 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens.
