CARLIE E. CUNNINGHAM, 96

CARLIE E. CUNNINGHAM, 96, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was born in Rockford, Ohio. She was an active Fort Wayne community volunteer and a homemaker. She was a member of Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, as well as the United Methodist Women and Church Women United organizations. She endowed several children’s groups at the church and was regularly involved in many activities there until recent years. She was a board member of the Fort Wayne YWCA, a member of the Literary Club (Delta Gamma chapter) and the Parliamentary Club. She supported many selected Fort Wayne causes with her time, talents and finances.

Her husband, Joseph P. Cunningham, an executive with Essex Corporation, and she were contributors to Indiana Institute of Technology, where he was a board member until his death. They provided housing in their home for many students without compensation. The Cunningham Business Center on the campus of Indiana Tech was named in their honor.

Survivors include Joseph’s and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and L. Mae (nee Wert) Copeland, her husband, Joseph, in 1983, brothers, Clarence and Carl Copeland, and her sister, Clara Copeland Brown.

Service is 2 pm Monday at D. O. McComb & Sons, Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Rev. James Evans officiating, with calling 2 hours prior. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
