THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT

He’s Still With Us

Several weeks ago MLB owners gave Bud Selig a three-year contract through 2012. This was done after he had repeatedly said since December of 2006 that the end of 2009 would be his last.

As I think about his extension I remember the article; “The truth about Barry Bonds and the Steroids” that appeared in the March 13, 2006 issue of Sports Illustrated.

I quote from the article: “One major difference between Shadows and the Dowd Report is that it took two reporters, Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams to ask questions that formerly were the responsibility of the Commissioner’s Office. The Commissioner Bud Selig borrowing from the Mark McGuire School or oratory made it clear that he wants nothing to do with the past. To confront it would be like trying to clean up a toxic waste dump much too messy and dangerous.”

The Dowd Report (Pete Rose) was triggered by the Commissioners Office. If Bart Giamatti were still living the commissioner of baseball would not have this steroid mess.

Too bad no doubt nothing will happen before 2012 and that’s the way many people see it.
