OPERATION HIRE A HERO
Veterans Day became Veterans Week this year in Northeast Indiana, thanks to JobWorks. A unique, first-time event—Operation Hire a Hero—helped jobless veterans find work. According to Steve Corona, JobWorks President, a job fair and career expo serves not only veterans, but also reservists, active military, and their family members as they transition from military to civilian employment. More than 60 companies and educational institutions were present.
Operation Hire a Hero consisted of two events.
Phase One was a Career Workshop for veterans, reservists and active military on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the National Guard Armory, 130 W. Cook Rd., Fort Wayne, IN.
This workshop provided access to JobWorks staff and human resource professionals for guidance with job search efforts including resume review, and tips on making the most of the upcoming job fair. Briefing sessions on these and other issues were held on the hour throughout the day.
Phase Two of the operation was the Veterans Job Fair and Career Expo that was held Thursday, November 16, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the World War II Victory Museum, 5634 C.R. 11A, Auburn, IN.

Operation Hire a Hero is sponsored by VetWorks, a JobWorks program, which is funded by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and the U.S. Department of Labor. JobWorks is a non-profit organization providing employment and training services in 28 Indiana counties including the city of Fort Wayne and 11 counties in northeast Indiana.
