BEGINNERS SUIT UP FOR HOCKEY
Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation and McMillen Ice Arena are proud to announce a new equipment checkout program for beginner hockey players. Players can now borrow their hockey equipment for the Initiation Hockey and Head Start Hockey programs.
Nearly 90 sets of hockey equipment will be made available to kids, thanks to $8,000 in grant monies from Fort Wayne Youth Hockey and the Mid-Am Hockey District. The sets of equipment will include helmets, shin guards, elbow pads and hockey gloves. This is all of the required equipment (other than skates and a stick) needed to participate in any of the beginning hockey programs. The equipment will be loaned to children enrolled in Initiation Hockey and Head Start Hockey programs, to check out prior to their lessons and return at the end of class.
“Suit Up for Hockey will help make the sport more accessible to families,” said Al Moll, director. “Kids can experience a new sport without families investing in the equipment – at least until they’re certain the kids want to continue playing hockey!” said Mr. Moll.
Participants may sign up for this program at the time of registration or any time during Initiation or Head Start Hockey sessions. Registration for these programs, as well as Girl’s All-Star Hockey, House League and
Learn to Skate classes, is at McMillen Ice Arena, 3901 Abbott Street, on the following dates:
* Saturday, September 16, 9am – noon
Free skating will be available on September 16th, 9:30–11:30am.
