The Fort Wayne Maennerchor/Damenchor will host a guest men’s choir, the “Chor des Handwerks” (choir of the Crafts) from their Sister City of Gera, Germany, from May 19 through 27. They will sing their greetings to Fort Wayne under the Courthouse Rotunda on Thursday, May 19, 2005 at 4pm.
The main purpose of their visit is to participate in the 55th District Saengerfest on the weekend of May 20-22, 2005. The highlight of the weekend is a concert of all 300 singers on stage at the Scottish Rite Center at 7pm, Saturday evening at which the German guest chorus will do a short presentation during the concert, as well as, participating in the full concert.
The “Chor des Handwerks” choir is made up of 25 men who are bankers, carpenters, millwrights, meat cutters, etc. who joined together to form a unified chorus in 1953. Under the direction of Michael Gernhardt, they have performed all over their home state of Thuringer in Germany. This is their first trip to the US.
