QUILTS MADE WITH LOVE

Time, talent, and a lot of love recently adorned the walls of The Grand Wayne Center during the Three Rivers Quilt Festival, sponsored by the Johnny Appleseed Quilter’s Guild. Quilts, wall hangings, and other assorted works of art were displayed for all to enjoy.

This year, for the very first time, Lois Mangona submitted her “Sunbonnet Sue” quilt to the festival. Lois began quilting back in the early 1980’s. She read an article about how a mother and daughter made a quilt together and how special the experience had become for both of them. So while her daughter, Patty Kiel, was expecting her first child they began working on one of many quilts to come. Patty agrees that it was a most memorable experience “even though Lois insisted that all work on the quilt was to be done only by hand stitching.”

Each of Lois’s four children treasure the quilts that she has given them. The quilts were made from the hands of love. So many quilters have gotten away from the art of hand stitching. This is what made Lois’s work of art so unique and cherished.
